OMG! GFCS in NYC with DCINY!

Grand Forks Choral Society is thrilled to announce that they have been invited to participate in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah” on the concert series of Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY). The choir will join with other choristers to form a 500 member mass choir performing in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, November 26, 2017.

Conductor Dr. Jonathan Griffith, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for DCINY states: “The Grand Forks Choral Society received this invitation because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers. It is quite an honour just to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community’s recognition and support.”

The choir will spend ten hours in rehearsals over a five day residency. “Not all of the time is spent in rehearsals, since there is so much history and culture to see in New York City. However, the performance is the primary purpose for their visit to the city”, says Griffith. He encourages members of the community to give financial support in sending these singers to New York by contacting Lyn Mackey at 250-442-5989 or via email at ljmackey@telus.net. Money raised will go to covering the musical education fees of the choir members. Conductor Griffith has worked with numerous international and regional orchestras and choruses and our local choir members are honoured to work with him and participate in this unforgettable concert experience.
